Drinking from the Fountain
The past few weeks have gone by quickly. Many different experiences. Touched by many different lives.
Blessed to set around the table in the home of special friends and share for a time in the joys that abound in watching a child be a child.
Getting a phone call from my husband while at work that his mom had been passed out and was being taken to the hospital by ambulance. Knowing that my friend at work was praying. Taking the time to make a call to enlist the prayers of another friend. Rushing to the emergency room and then sitting for hours in the treatment room with my husband, daughter and father-in-law as the doctor ran test after test, looking for answers. Visiting Mom daily in the hospital, still waiting for answers. She got to go home Friday, but we still don't have any answers.
Calling my mom, and hearing her calculate that she was ten years older than the in-laws (they're 87, she's 91).
Going to a basketball game and getting hugs from a couple of the players we got to know last year. Seeing one of the players from last year on a different team and getting a hug from him after the game.
Getting a call from a friend, looking for help and answers to questions after one of her friends had experienced tragedy when that friend's sister had been charged with murdering her four year-old son.
Having my husband's brother, sister-in-law and nephew arrive in town and getting to visit with them for a while last night and then again at lunch today. There will be more visiting throughout the week.
Sitting in class today, listening to a young man pour out his heart about the tragedy in his life created by a life on drugs and alcohol. His wife moved in with another man, taking their two young children. He eventually ended up in jail, but sees now this is the best thing that has happened to him. But he is now wondering where he goes from here.
Hugging my friend who had spent the week-end visiting her husband who is serving a life sentence in prison. Their first Christmas apart is coming up. It's going to be a really difficult time.
Christmas Eve will mark the one year anniversary of when we first met Josh, when he and two other basketball players came to our house for dinner. That is going to be a bitter-sweet day, especially for Victoria. Anniversaries hit her hard.
So much to be thankful for, even in the midst of so much pain. I just pray that I can be Christ's light to the hurting. I know how that feels, and I know how much the need is. Thank God for Jesus, especially as we celebrate His birth this season of the year.
